I'm John Hodgins. I help nonprofits and philanthropies build relationships with people important to them through the web and social media. I'm focused on helping organizations share and learn in a connected world.
A senior communications associate at the Annie E. Casey Foundation, John Hodgins currently manages the national philanthropy’s web and social media efforts. In this role, John Hodgins is responsible for several websites; social media accounts for several organizational brands, intranet resources and digital publications. John Hodgins first joined Casey in 2004, serving on the communications team for Casey Family Services.
With significant subject matter expertise and 15 years experience in child welfare and nonprofit management, John Hodgins is a writer, editor, designer and project manager. He primarily works on content and design strategy, brand management and digital communications efforts. He regularly oversees the work of designers, writers, web developers and other consultants. An enthusiast who has been using web-publishing technologies since 2001, he is a social media evangelist for organizations and frequently leads trainings for nonprofit professionals.
Before joining Casey, John Hodgins worked as a communications manager at Sweetser in Maine, then the largest behavioral and mental health organization in the state serving vulnerable children and families. Prior to this, he served as the communications director at Youth Alternatives, Inc., (now the Opportunity Alliance) another Maine-based child welfare agency. While at the agency, John Hodgins stepped out of the Communications Department and into operations for several years to oversee contracts, state licensing efforts and the organization’s national accreditation.
John Hodgins currently is working toward the Master of Science in communications management at the S.I. Newhouse School for Public Communication at Syracuse University. In addition to studying under leading practitioners in the field, he has been named to the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi for his academic achievement and elected to serve on the program’s advisory committee by his peers. John Hodgins anticipates completing the program in 2013.
A 1995 graduate of Hobart & William Smith Colleges, in Geneva, New York, John Hodgins has earned professional certificates from New York University in public relations, project management and digital media marketing. He is a Qualified Google Advertising Professional. He formerly served on the board of directors for the Southern Connecticut Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and the Maine Public Relations Council.
